Product Overview

Premium Distillate for High-Performance Applications

High-Speed Diesel (HSD) is a premium middle distillate fuel specifically formulated for applications where standard diesel may not deliver optimal performance. The name refers not to the speed of delivery but to the engine speed — HSD is designed for high-RPM diesel engines operating at 1,500–3,000+ RPM, where fuel must ignite rapidly, burn completely, and leave minimal deposits.

HSD is also the fuel of choice for many gas turbine applications (power generation, mechanical drive), where contaminants that would be acceptable in a slow-speed marine diesel can cause catastrophic damage to turbine blades operating at extreme temperatures.

Key Differences from Standard Diesel:
Higher cetane number for faster ignition in high-speed engines
Tighter distillation range for more complete combustion at high RPM
Lower carbon residue to minimize combustion chamber deposits
Stricter limits on water and sediment to protect precision injection systems

Applications

Where HSD Excels

High-RPM Diesel Engines

Generators running at 1,500–3,000 RPM, pumps, compressors, and other high-speed stationary engines. Marine high-speed craft, patrol boats, rescue vessels with engines above 1,000 RPM.

Gas Turbines

Gas turbines for power generation (open cycle and combined cycle), mechanical drive gas turbines for pipeline compressors and pump drives, aero-derivative gas turbines in industrial and marine applications.

Industrial Burners & Furnaces

Industrial furnaces and kilns requiring clean-burning fuel, asphalt plants (rotary dryers), industrial drying operations, high-temperature process heating where fuel contaminants would damage burner nozzles.

Locomotives & Rail Engines

Rail traction engines and locomotive diesel engines where HSD is the manufacturer-specified fuel grade.

High-Speed Construction Equipment

Modern excavators, wheel loaders, and construction equipment where the manufacturer specifies HSD-grade fuel for high-speed engines.

Specialty Applications

As a blending component for specialized fuel formulations, industrial equipment cleaning solvent (where appropriate), feedstock for certain chemical processes.

Standard truck, bus, or construction engine (not specified as HSD)
Engine manufacturer specifies EN 590 automotive diesel
FAQ

Common Questions

Can I use HSD in my truck if I can't get regular diesel?
Generally not recommended. HSD has lower density (less energy per litre), lower lubricity (potentially causing fuel pump wear), and a lower flash point (potential safety issue). Use the fuel grade specified by your engine manufacturer. In an emergency, limited use may be acceptable in some engines — consult the manufacturer or our technical team first.
Is HSD the same as "white diesel" or "premium diesel"?
No. "White diesel" is a colloquial term for road diesel (EN 590) — unrelated to HSD. "Premium diesel" at retail stations is typically standard EN 590 diesel with enhanced additive packages — also not HSD. HSD is a distinct product with its own specification.
Do you supply HSD with biodiesel (FAME) content?
Typically, HSD is supplied as 100% petroleum-derived distillate without FAME. If you specifically require a biodiesel blend, please inquire — availability depends on current market conditions and your specification requirements.
What's the minimum order for HSD?
Typically 1,000 IG for bulk delivery. Lower minimums are available for drum and IBC delivery. Contact us with your requirements and we'll advise on the most efficient delivery format.
