Product Overview

The Trusted Workhorse Fuel

Standard EN 590 diesel is the tried-and-tested fuel that has powered the UAE's commercial vehicle fleet, construction machinery, generators, and industrial equipment for decades. While the world moves toward ULSD for the newest vehicles, millions of existing engines were designed for and continue to operate perfectly on standard EN 590 with sulfur up to 50 ppm.

This fuel offers an excellent balance of performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness for older commercial vehicles, heavy construction equipment, industrial generators that don't require ULSD, marine auxiliary engines, and agricultural machinery.

Important: Standard diesel is NOT suitable for Euro 5/6 vehicles with DPF or SCR systems. If your vehicle has a diesel particulate filter, use Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (10 ppm). When in doubt, check your owner's manual.

Cost Advantage vs ULSD

Standard EN 590 diesel is typically 2–5% less expensive than 10 ppm ULSD. For a fleet consuming 100,000 litres per month, that's AED 5,000–15,000+ monthly savings — meaningful for operations where ULSD is not required.

Fleet Strategy Consideration

If any vehicle in your fleet requires ULSD, the cost of maintaining two separate storage systems may outweigh the price difference. We can help you analyze your fleet composition and recommend the most cost-effective strategy.

Applications

Where Standard EN 590 Is the Right Choice

Suitable For
Pre-Euro 5 commercial vehicles (trucks, buses) without DPF/SCR — typically pre-2014/2016
Heavy construction equipment: excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, graders, mobile cranes
Industrial generators without emission control systems
Marine auxiliary engines on vessels where the main engine uses MGO
Agricultural machinery: tractors, harvesters, irrigation pumps
Industrial heating and boiler applications
Not Suitable For
Euro 5 or Euro 6 vehicles with DPF, SCR, or DOC — these require ≤10 ppm ULSD. Using standard diesel risks aftertreatment damage.
Engines where the manufacturer explicitly specifies ≤10 ppm sulfur fuel.
Applications requiring guaranteed ultra-low sulfur for regulatory compliance.

When in doubt: Check your equipment owner's manual or contact our technical team — we'll help determine which grade is right for your fleet.

Commercial Trucks & Buses

Pre-Euro 5 heavy-duty vehicles without emission control systems — bulk delivery fleets, long-distance transport, older bus fleets.

Construction Machinery

Excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, cranes, and other heavy equipment. Older construction fleets from pre-2019 era.

Agricultural Equipment

Tractors, harvesters, irrigation pumps across UAE farms and agricultural operations — Al Ain date farms, RAK greenhouses.

FAQ

Common Questions

What's the actual sulfur content of your standard EN 590 diesel?
It varies by supply source but typically ranges from 10–50 ppm. We can provide the exact sulfur level for your deliveries upon request. If you need a guaranteed ≤10 ppm, please order our Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel product.
Will standard diesel damage my engine if it was designed for ULSD?
If your engine is Euro 5 or Euro 6 with DPF and/or SCR, using diesel above 10 ppm WILL damage the aftertreatment system over time. The engine itself may tolerate higher sulfur, but the emission control systems will not. Pre-Euro 5 engines without DPF/SCR are fully compatible with standard diesel.
Can I switch between standard diesel and ULSD in the same tank?
Yes — if your equipment accepts both grades. However, mixing will raise sulfur content above 10 ppm, making the mixed fuel unsuitable for ULSD-only engines. If you serve ULSD-only vehicles from the same tank, do not mix grades.
Is the cetane number different from ULSD?
Both have the same minimum cetane requirement (≥51). In practice, ULSD may have a slightly higher cetane number due to the hydrotreatment process, but the difference is typically 1–3 numbers — not noticeable in normal engine operation.
