Product Overview

The Circular Economy Applied to Petroleum

Black diesel — also known as recycled diesel, re-refined fuel oil, or used oil fuel — is produced by collecting used lubricating oil (from vehicle oil changes, industrial machinery, hydraulic systems), processing it to remove contaminants (water, heavy metals, solids, and degraded additives), and producing a fuel-grade product suitable for industrial combustion.

At Hibernia Diesel, our black diesel program sources used oil from licensed collectors, processes it through approved re-refining facilities, and supplies the resulting fuel to industrial consumers. Every litre of black diesel used is one litre of virgin diesel not burned — and one litre of used oil responsibly managed rather than improperly disposed.

100% Legal & Documented: Our black diesel is a legitimate, documented, processed recycled product from licensed facilities — fully compliant with UAE regulations. Chain of custody maintained from waste generator to end-user.

Environmental Impact
40–70%
Lower lifecycle GHG vs. virgin diesel
1 litre of used oil can contaminate up to 1 million litres of fresh water if improperly disposed. Black diesel diverts this hazardous waste into useful energy.
Cost Advantage
20–40%
Cheaper than virgin industrial diesel
Environmental Case

Why Recycled Diesel Matters

The Problem: UAE Used Oil

The UAE generates millions of litres of used lubricating oil annually — from vehicle servicing, industrial machinery, marine operations, and power generation. Improper disposal contaminates soil, groundwater, and marine environments. 1 litre of used oil can contaminate 1 million litres of fresh water.

The Solution: Re-Refining

Re-refining addresses multiple challenges simultaneously: used oil diverted from dumping, virgin fuel demand reduced, 40–70% lower lifecycle GHG emissions, and processing in controlled facilities with emission controls — far cleaner than informal burning.

ESG / CSR Benefits

Using recycled fuel can be reported as part of corporate sustainability initiatives, waste reduction targets, and circular economy commitments. We provide documentation of the fuel's recycled origin for your ESG reporting.

Our Commitment

We source only from licensed, audited collectors and process through approved facilities with environmental permits. Full chain of custody documentation from waste generator to end-user. We do not engage in the informal, unregulated used oil trade.

Black Diesel / Recycled Diesel
Applications

Where Black Diesel Is Suitable

Suitable For
Industrial boilers producing steam or hot water for manufacturing processes
Process furnaces and kilns (cement, brick, ceramic, metal heat-treating)
Thermal oil heaters and hot oil systems
Asphalt plants (rotary dryers and aggregate heating)
Large-scale space heating in factories, warehouses, greenhouses
As a blend component with virgin industrial diesel or fuel oil to reduce cost
Not Suitable For
ANY on-road vehicle — illegal and will cause severe engine damage
High-speed diesel engines or modern common-rail engines
Generators without manufacturer approval for recycled/re-refined fuel
Any engine with DPF, SCR, or other emission control systems
Applications where fuel is stored for extended periods without use (lower oxidation stability)
Economics

The Business Case for Black Diesel

20–40%
Cost savings vs. virgin industrial diesel
AED 150K–400K+
Annual savings at 100,000 L/month (illustrative 25% reduction)
ESG
Reportable as circular economy / sustainability initiative
Reduced Crude Oil Price Exposure

Black diesel pricing is partially decoupled from crude oil markets, providing some price stability compared to virgin diesel.

Waste Management Savings

If your company generates used oil as part of operations, supplying it to our re-refining program may reduce your hazardous waste disposal costs.

FAQ

Common Questions

Is black diesel the same as "black market" diesel or smuggled fuel?
Absolutely not. "Black market" fuel refers to illegally traded or smuggled fuel of unknown origin and quality. Hibernia Diesel's black diesel is a legitimate, documented, processed recycled product from licensed facilities. The term "black" refers to the color — not the legality. Our black diesel is 100% legal, fully documented, and supplied in compliance with UAE regulations.
Will black diesel damage my boiler?
When used in equipment designed for distillate or light residual fuel, and when the fuel meets the equipment manufacturer's specification, black diesel will not cause damage. We recommend discussing your specific equipment with our technical team before ordering. We can adjust the processing to meet your required specification.
Can you supply consistent quality from batch to batch?
Yes. While black diesel is inherently a recycled product with varying feedstock, our processing is controlled to produce a consistent fuel within the agreed specification. We provide a COA for every batch so you can verify the actual parameters including heavy metals.
What's the minimum order for black diesel?
Given the nature of the product, minimum orders are typically 5,000 IG (22,730 litres) — reflecting the logistics of collecting, processing, and delivering recycled fuel. Contact us to discuss your specific volume requirements.
